Best part of summer

Confession: when the temps go above 80, I get grouchy. I hate walking outside and feeling like I’m going to melt. My favorite temps are 65-75, if I could live in that year round, I would move this afternoon.

This summer has been the best summer that I can remember in a long time. We have had a couple of really hot days, but for the most part, it’s been a summer in the late 60’s – 70’s and it’s perfection.

My favorite part about any summer: outdoor cooking!

Over the weekend, we grilled some steaks and chicken while the in laws were visiting and wow. SO good!!

There is just something about cooking on the grill that makes everything taste better.

What I Ate Wednesday {6}

Like almost every other WIAW post I have read today, this is my first one in a couple of weeks, thanks to Christmas Day and New Year’s Day falling on Wednesdays. Glad to be back in the game!

Today was snow day #3. Heaven help us all if school is cancelled again tomorrow.

We kept it low key today and didn’t go anywhere. It was a little warmer than it has been (I think it got up to 14 today which was a heat wave compared to the -40 two days ago) so they were in and out of the house making igloos and snow forts all through the yard. Thank goodness for small favors.

Breakfast:

Looking at this picture makes me sad I emptied the box this morning. I have a mad craving for Frosted Mini Wheats lately, can’t get enough of that goodness! The sliced banana on top makes it even better.

Lunch:

The usual. I’m trying to keep my carb levels to a minimum at least one meal during the day so I don’t have to inject as much insulin. It seems to be helping, my levels have been nothing short of amazing lately. I’m pretty proud of myself :).

Since I was pretty hungry, I also had a makeshift grilled cheese: whole wheat english muffin with sharp cheddar cheese- under the broiler for about 3 minutes.

I had a couple of squares of this little goody this afternoon.

Dinner:

The rest of the family had pancakes, but pancakes make my blood sugar spike to over 200, and I don’t even have syrup with them. Instead, I had an egg sandwich with turkey bacon on the side and a mighty delicious and extra juicy orange.

Can’t forget about hump day, bump day: 25 weeks, 4 days.

I had a bad case of insomnia last night and then the kids were up early this morning, which means I’m ready for bed. Like now. I’m going to go crochet for a little bit and then call it a night when I put the troops to bed.

Don’t forget to head over to Peas and Crayons for more WIAW fun!

Marvelous in my Monday {5}

So happy that our power came back on a few hours ago! It is getting mighty chilly outside and we were worried about the pipes freezing/bursting before the power was restored. Thank you DTE for getting us back up and running!!! Let’s get right down to today’s MiMM.

Marvelous is…my sister making this amazing spaghetti/garlic bread loaf.

Spaghetti, garlic bread, cheese and sausage; if that’s wrong, I don’t want to be right!

Here’s the finished product

Marvelous is... my mom’s Christmas tree. I don’t know how she gets it so perfect every year, but I love it.

Marvelous is…dinner tonight! We took my in laws out for dinner for their Christmas gift. SOO good. I always get the asiago peppercorn steak and it’s AMAZING. Tonight was no exception.

I’m off to finish wrapping the rest of the presents and then we are headed to my mom’s house tomorrow and Wednesday for all sorts of Christmas ridiculousness. From our family to yours, Merry Christmas!!!

What I Ate Wednesday

I haven’t done one of these posts in a very long time, since I had my old blog and even then, it was probably May or possibly April when I did one. 2nd trimester energy is amazing and I hope it never goes away!

If you’re new to the party; Jenn at Peas and Crayons puts this little link up party together every Wednesday, so if you’re hungry or looking for some new meal ideas, go check out everyone who is participating today.

I only have a couple of meals to show you today because my snacks were consumed in the car on the way home from my Dr’s appointment this morning and the afternoon snack on my way to pick up the littles from school.

Breakfast:

Scrambled eggs, toast, turkey bacon and a grapefruit. Yes, I eat my grapefruits like an orange. They are delicious like this and way less effort!

Lunch:

I tried a new soup from Progresso and I was not disappointed! I also had some Carbmaster yogurt on the side, because it’s the only dessert I get lately and doesn’t send my blood sugars sky high. Win. Win.

And because today is Hump Day Bump Day; I bring you the baby bump at 18 weeks, 4 days.

Have a great night!
